St. Cecilia's Convent

In 2009...

my friend and colleague Nathan Spondike, organized "Room Tones" a show in a repurposed convent with the blessing of Father Kritsche of St. Cecilia Church in Brooklyn. Consequentially, we were able to rent enormous studios from the church for practically nothing, making it possible to make more ambitious work with the extra money.

This same year Michael Jackson had passed away. The two pieces here were eulogies to the controversial pop figure, one being a stained glass window made of plexi, and the other a projection mapped onto an existing fireplace in the convent. The footage was taken from the Pepsi commercial in which Michael's hair caught on fire after a pyrotechnic display malfunctioned. Urban dictionary describes "hair on fire" as used to describe when the threshold of creativity has been crossed over into insanity
